What it does
- Every attribute that changes, with both values beside the difference (6 → 8).
- Enchantments gained, lost or at another level, named, never turned into a made-up damage number.
- Durability left, when both items wear out.
- Shields are compared with your off hand. Items from other mods work too.
- No configuration: it does the right thing on first launch.

Requires: Fabric Loader + Fabric API, or NeoForge (no extra library).
How to install
- Install the free CurseForge app, create a profile for your Minecraft version with Fabric or NeoForge, and search for the mod under Add Content.
- Or by hand: on the CurseForge page, open Files and pick the file for your version and loader. On Fabric, also get Fabric API.
- Put the .jar in your mods folder (nothing goes on the server) and start the game with that loader.
Nothing to set up: open your inventory and hover an item.
Questions
Does it work on servers?
Yes. It is client-side only: you install it, the server does not, and it works on servers you do not run.
Why doesn't it show a damage number for Sharpness?
What an enchantment is worth depends on what you hit and how. A single number would look precise and be wrong, so enchantments are named instead.
Is there a Bedrock version?
Yes, Gear Compare for Bedrock has its own page in the Bedrock section.
Can I put it in a modpack?
Yes, public or private, without asking. It is MIT licensed.
